Criminal defence specialist with professional skills and standards.
Anand was educated at Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College before reading law at the National University of Singapore and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2000. Anand is a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators as well as an Associate Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre. Anand has led dispute resolution and criminal litigation practices and has experience with regulating professional conduct within the legal, medical and accounting professions as well as conducting prosecutions for private individuals and statutory bodies.
Anand has a specialised criminal defence practice – advising clients during investigations and representing clients in civilian & military court hearings as well as executive detention and extradition proceedings. Anand has acquired niche expertise and experience in criminal matters ranging from major (eg. homicide, narcotics) and general (eg. sexual, property, traffic) offences to financial (eg. fraud, corruption) and technology (eg. hacking, harassment) crimes. Anand was formerly the Deputy Chief Public Defender – and is appointed to the Criminal Procedure Rules Committee.
Anand is an adjunct Associate Professor with the NUS Faculty of Law and was on the Programme Advisory Committee of the SUSS School of Law. Anand is an Instructor with the Practice Training Advocacy Course and was the Deputy Subject Coordinator for Professional Skills with the Part B course of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education. Anand has contributed to publications such as “The Practice of Law” (LexisNexis) and the Singapore Academy of Law Journal (SAcLJ) as well as both editions of “A Civil Practice – Good Counsel for Learned Friends” (Academy Publishing).
Anand served on the Council of the Law Society of Singapore and committees of the Singapore Academy of Law and the ASEAN Law Association (Singapore) as well as panels under the auspices of the Ministry of Law, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Defence. Anand believes in access to justice and has supported the Legal Assistance Scheme for Capital Offences (LASCO) and the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS) as well as charitable and community organisations. Anand was conferred the Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Medal) by the President of the Republic of Singapore.
